Product details
Origin: The original distribution area of the Physalis extends from Mexico via Peru to Argentina, where it grows at altitudes of up to 1,400 meters.
The Physalis purinosa is a herbaceous plant that grows upright and bushy and reaches a height of between 40 and 70 centimetres. Its leaves are soft and hairy. The tomentose, hairy calyx grows to a length of between four and six centimetres when the fruit is ripe.
The yellow to orange-colored fruits, which are surrounded by lampion-shaped, parchment-like bracts, appear as spherical, roughly cherry-sized berries.
Sowing: One to two seeds per PlantPlug. The seeds like it relatively warm and bright for germination (so-called light germinators).
Germination time: approx. 1 - 2 weeks.
Ideal room temperature: 20 - 30 °C.
Water requirement: Requires plenty of water.

Placing the GreenBox in a well-ventilated place can prevent fungal diseases.
Tip: Pinching young plants, i.e. pinching out the young shoot tips, promotes bushy growth with lots of fruiting shoots.
Physalis are so-called self-fertilizers. This means that they can fertilize themselves and therefore do not need a second plant as a pollinator.
When the plant develops flowers, pollination can be supported by gently moving the plant. A manual transfer of pollen with a finger/cotton swab/brush increases the fertilization rate.
A large amount of fruit falls off with the lanterns. It is advisable to wait until the fruits fall to the ground. This gives them the optimum degree of ripeness. Picked berries are not as sweet and less aromatic.
The Physalis stay fresh for a few days to weeks when stored in the shell (the lampion).
Physalis are rich in vitamins A, B and C and are suitable both as an aromatic snack fruit and as an edible decoration for desserts, as an addition to desserts and as an ingredient in juices and smoothies.
Only ripe fruits are edible! Other parts of the plants are not suitable for consumption.
