Enter the magical world of mushrooms and grow the wonderful Lion's Mane at home! Popular with organic hackers and connoisseurs of good taste.

At the Lion's Mane! The favorite of organic hackers and gourmet chefs!

The Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is also known as the monkey's head or pom-pom. It is very popular among mushroom lovers! The fruiting body is beige in color, sometimes slightly reddish and can reach sizes of up to 30 cm. The mushrooms usually have short stalks and are 10-25 cm thick. The upper side is fibrous and torn. On the underside there are soft, dense spines. The Lion's Mane owes its name to these characteristics.

The meat is whitish and has a somewhat fibrous consistency, reminiscent of seafood. Depending on how it is prepared, its taste is reminiscent of lobster, veal or poultry meat with slightly fruity aromas of coconut and lemongrass.

The Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is ideal for the GreenBox! With our ready-made culture, you have the opportunity to harvest a tasty and healthy edible mushroom yourself in a short time!

Healthy mushrooms - healthy body!

Supposedly good for the brain and immune system. In terms of mineral content, Lion's Mane is on a par with other mushrooms. However, it contains an above-average amount of essential free amino acids. In one study, a content of 16 % was demonstrated. A total of 19 free amino acids were detected; almost all essential amino acids for humans were contained.

We put the fun in fungi

Growing large portions of delicious gourmet mushrooms has never been so easy. Thanks to the optimal growing conditions in our GreenBox, we guarantee fast and high-yielding harvests. What's more, with the right storage and care, each grow kit can be used more than once for even more mushroom fun.

Caution: The substrate for Lion's Lion's Mane (Lion's Mane) differs from that for oyster mushrooms and has a darker color. This is completely normal and not a sign of mold. The dark color results from the special ingredients required for the growth of this mushroom.

Package contents

In each pack you will find a GreenBox-sized substrate filled with spores of the selected mushroom species. It has been specially developed for indoor cultivation using our smart indoor garden, the GreenBox.

Storage

For best results, we recommend using the substrates shortly after receipt. The substrates can be stored unopened at room temperature for up to 7-10 days after arrival.

They can also be stored unopened in the refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.

The freshly harvested mushrooms should be kept refrigerated in a paper bag for no longer than 3-4 days - but they certainly taste best fresh.

Care and harvest

Start the growth cycle by placing the substrate in the empty GreenBox water tank, making an X-cut in the foil and spraying with water. We recommend doing this in the first few days after receiving the package to ensure optimal growth.

Do you need a nice spray bottle ? - we have one ready for you.

Set the GreenBox app to mushroom light mode - automatically switched on for 12 hours a day.

Spray the incision two to three times a day (about 6-8 sprays per watering are sufficient). Young mushrooms will appear in about 7 to 10 days. In this case, do not spray water directly on the mushrooms, but spray the area around the outside of the fruiting bodies.

The Lion's Mane is ready for harvesting in about 14 to 21 days - as soon as the 'spines' are 1-2 cm long. The best way to harvest the mushroom is to hold the mushroom by the lower end and gently pull and twist it at the same time.

Keep the room temperature in the range of 12 to 21 degrees Celsius for optimum growth.

The Lion's Mane is characterized by:

Distinctive taste and texture profile
This mushroom has a mild, slightly sweet taste and a delicate, fibrous texture. It is perfect for dishes where a meat-like consistency is desired and is ideal for creamy soups, pasta sauces or as a sophisticated side dish.

Adaptable growing conditions
The Lion's Mane thrives at temperatures between 12 and 21 degrees Celsius and prefers high humidity. You can harvest the first dense, lion's mane-like fruiting bodies within 14 to 21 days.

Nutrient-rich powerhouse
This mushroom is low in calories and rich in protein, fiber and bioactive compounds such as beta-glucans. Its potential benefits range from supporting brain function to boosting the immune system.

High-yield harvest
One pack can yield up to 0.5 kg of mushrooms, and with the right care, several harvests are possible. The Lion's Mane is not only delicious, but also an eye-catcher in any dish.

The benefits of mushrooms are manifold.

In addition to their culinary versatility, they offer numerous health benefits. Hedgehog tails contain bioactive substances that have been shown to promote cognitive health, strengthen the immune system and have an anti-inflammatory effect.

They are an ideal supplement to a balanced diet and can improve well-being and quality of life.

Any more questions?

It's as simple as it can be. To get started, place the mushroom package in the empty water tank of the GreenBox, cut an X in the foil from above and spray it vigorously with water. It is not a problem if you also cut into the substrate when making the incision. This will have no effect on your harvest.

Follow the instructions in the app for the optimal setting of the grow light (use the cold mushroom light for 12 hours).

Continue to spray the incision two to three times a day (about 6 - 8 sprays per watering are sufficient). Young mushrooms will appear in about 7 - 10 days.

Ideally, do not spray the water directly onto the mushrooms, but spray the area around the outside of the fruiting bodies.

While the first harvest will probably be the largest, you can do more than one growing cycle with a single mushroom pack. In most cases, you can look forward to 2 - 3 harvests if stored correctly.

Please note: We guarantee at least one harvest. The later harvest depends more on the growing environment and the care of the kit!

To prepare your Lion's Mane optimally for the next harvest, follow these simple steps:

  1. Remove mushroom remains:
Remove the larger remains of the main mushrooms from the last harvest. It is sufficient to remove the remains only at the cutting point. Mushrooms growing laterally under the foil can remain untouched. This is completely sufficient and protects the substrate.
  2. Take care of the substrate:
Make sure to remove as little substrate as possible to avoid drying out. This is important to maintain the best growing conditions.
  3. Leave in the GreenBox:
Simply leave the substrate in the GreenBox. Start spraying regularly to maintain the humidity.

The next growth cycle should start within 10-20 days. Optionally, you can put the substrate in the fridge for a day before placing it in the GreenBox. This so-called "cold shock" can accelerate the growth of the next mushrooms.

A good supply of oxygen is important for the successful cultivation of mushrooms. It should therefore be in a place that is well ventilated.

Normal room temperatures (18 to 30 degrees Celsius for the Pink Oyster Mushroom, 12 to 21 degrees Celsius for the Pearl Oyster Mushroom and the Lion's Mane - and 15 to 25 degrees Celsius for the Italian Oyster Mushroom) are also important for a successful harvest!

The use of the GreenBox tent is recommended until the first small mushrooms start to grow. The mushrooms need high humidity in order to form their first fruiting bodies. This is easier to achieve with the tent.

When the first small mushrooms appear, it is advisable to at least open the tent or, even better, to remove it completely! Also during the rest of the growth cycle.

This is important to ensure a good supply of oxygen and thus good growth.

Use the GreenBox mushroom mode (via the GreenBox app), maintain normal room temperatures (18 to 30 degrees Celsius for the Pink Oyster Mushroom, 12 to 21 degrees Celsius for the Pearl Oyster Mushroom and the Lion's Mane - and 15 to 25 degrees Celsius for the Italian Oyster Mushroom) and spray them regularly with fine water. A small, clean spray bottle is recommended if you don't have one, you can buy one here.

It is advisable to use the GreenBox tent cover to maintain a higher humidity, which the mushrooms like. Leave the tent open occasionally to allow air to circulate around them. The room where you place your GreenBox should be well ventilated. We also recommend that you do not place the GreenBox near a heater, as the mushrooms do not like dry and warm air.

Our mushroom substrate is manufactured in such a way that there should be a small gap between the foil and the substrate after insertion into the GreenBox. If for some reason the foil sticks to the substrate and there is no gap, you can fold the foil slightly. This will allow the young mushrooms to grow better.

The Lion's Mane is usually ready for harvest around 15-22 days after the start.

Earliest time for a high-quality harvest: As soon as the "spines" become visible.

Last time for a high-quality harvest: as soon as the ends of the 'spines' turn slightly yellowish.

It is not necessary to wash the mushrooms before eating them.

The substrate consists of a sterilized mixture of oak sawdust and wheat bran. The packs are inoculated with the mycelium of the selected mushroom variety to turn the substrate into a fertile base for a future mushroom jungle. Everything is organic, free from harmful chemicals, GMOs and the like.

As soon as it is time for the next mushroom pack, you can dispose of the substrate in the organic waste without hesitation. We strongly recommend that you recycle it as a plant substrate or turn it into compost.
